Radon

In the central and western parts of Monmouth County, there is a potential, due to our natural geology, to encounter Radon in our homes. It is a colorless, odorless, radioactive gas that travels through the soil and up into a dwelling.

Smoke Detectors, Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Make sure that these detectors have fresh batteries and are working properly. Extreme caution should be taken to make sure that the indoor air is not building up with carbon monoxide, which is known as a silent killer. It is also prudent to have your primary heating system checked by a qualified person, before the winter, if it has not had routine maintenance in a while.

Household Hazardous Waste

Properly store or turn in old containers of solvents, pesticides, paints and adhesives. If these items are stored in your living space, they can contaminate your indoor air.  The Household Hazardous Waste facility is located on Shafto Road in Tinton Falls, and residents should call 732-922-2234 for an appointment to drop off their household hazardous waste.
