Passports

What documents are needed to get my passport?
Each applicant must prove his citizenship when applying for a passport using: a certified birth certificate with both parents’ names and a raised seal, U.S. passport, or certificate of naturalization. Children age 15 and under must always have their birth certificates when applying. Applicants must also show identification if over the age of 18 (minors use parents’ or guardians’ identification).

Does the Monmouth County Connection take passport photos?
Yes. The Monmouth County Connection has on-site photo processing and is happy to take your passport picture.

How long will it take to receive my passport?
Processing times vary but typically it will take 4-6 weeks to receive your passport if applying for routine service. Service can be expedited. Please contact the office for additional information.

How long is my passport valid?
If the applicant is 16 years of age or older when applying for a U.S. passport the passport will be valid for 10 years. If the applicant is under the age of 16 the U.S. passport will be valid for 5 years.

How do I obtain a certified copy of a U.S. birth certificate with both parents’ names?
Please contact the Vital Statistics office in the city in which the applicant was born.

Can I send a copy of a Birth Certificate?
No. The birth certificate must be an original, certified document with a raised seal and include both parents’ names.

Can I pay for my passport application with cash?
No. At the Monmouth County Connection your passport application must be processed using a check or money order.

Will my old passport and documents be returned?
Yes. Your old passport and any documents sent to prove citizenship (birth certificate, passport, or naturalization papers) will be returned to you in a separate envelope 5 to 7 days after you receive your new passport.

Does my child need to be present when applying for a passport?
Yes. Regardless of age, anyone who is applying for a passport must be present.

Is it true that both parents/ legal guardians must be present when a minor (under 16) is applying for a passport?

U.S. passport applicants under the age of 16 are required to have consent from both parents /legal guardians. If both parents/ guardians are unable to be present a consent form (3053) will be needed for the applicant. Please contact the office or www.travel.state.gov for more information.

Veterans' IDs

What are the requirements to obtain a Veteran’s ID?
The veteran must be a resident of Monmouth County and must have a DD-214.

How do I obtain a copy of my DD-214?
The Monmouth County Connection has application forms which we are happy to send to Veterans’ Services in order for you to obtain the document.

What if I was discharged or separated prior to the creation of the DD-214?
If you are unable to obtain a DD-214 for reasons beyond your control Veterans’ Services will provide you with a letter explaining the reasons for not being able to send you the documentation.

Does my discharge certificate allow me to obtain a Veterans’ ID?
While the Monmouth County Connection appreciates your service we are unable to process your Veteran’s ID card without the DD-214.

Notary Public Services

Can I be sworn in as a Notary Public at the Monmouth County Connection?
Yes. Residents of Monmouth County may be sworn in at the Neptune office or Freehold office.

What is the cost of becoming a Notary Public?
The application fee to become a Notary Public is $25 payable to the State Treasurer. When being sworn in the fee is $15.

What types of payments are accepted when being sworn in?
The County Clerk’s office accepts checks, cash, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover.

What documents can be notarized at the Monmouth County Connection?
Most documents can be notarized at the Neptune office with the exception of deeds, mortgages, or any document that is going to be filed at the County Clerk’s Office in Freehold. 

What if I need a witness present to sign a document that is being notarized? If a witness(es) is needed please contact the office for more details.
