Freehold – Monmouth County Route 537 (West Main Street)
Monmouth County is advancing the design for operational and safety improvements to Monmouth County Route 537 (CR537) Corridor. The project study area which originally included a 2.8 mile section from a point just west of Gravel Hill Road in Freehold Township, to New Jersey Route 33 Business in Freehold Borough had been changed due to lack of support for the project from Freehold Borough. The modified project limits encompass a 1.75 mile section from Sentinel Road to and the U.S. Route 9 interchange in Freehold Township. With the completion of the 2013/2014 Local Concept Development (LCD) Study with a Preliminary Preferred Alternative (PPA), the project has advanced to the Local Preliminary Engineering (LPE) Phase. The LPE phase includes: additional data collection; coordination with the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA), New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and permitting agencies; community involvement through local officials’ briefings, stakeholders meetings, and public information centers; and environmental clearance through the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation.
