Freeholders to vote on resolution to remove Hope Road from Master Plan

FREEHOLD, NJ – On Sept. 27, the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders will vote on a resolution to remove Hope Road, between Sycamore Avenue (County Road 13A) and Tinton Avenue (County Road 537), as a potential County road from the Monmouth County Road Plan.

“We listened to the residents of Tinton Falls and their request to remove Hope Road from the Monmouth County Road Plan,” said Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Department of Public Works and Engineering. “Moving forward, the County will continue to have an open discussion with the residents about improving safety of the intersection.”

On Aug. 1, the County of Monmouth held a Public Information Session attended by more than one hundred residents and public officials. As a direct result of the open dialogue between the County and its residents at the Public Information Session, Tinton Falls Borough Council passed a resolution on Sept. 4 to request that the County remove Hope Road from the Monmouth County Road Plan.

The Monmouth County Road Plan is an element of the Monmouth County Master Plan, which was adopted in October 2012. In the current plan, some municipal roads that may serve a regional function were identified as potential County roads. However, these roads would only become County roads through a formal municipal request of a jurisdictional takeover.

“The safety, satisfaction, and overall quality of life of our residents are of utmost importance to the Freeholders,” said Deputy Director Lillian G. Burry, liaison to the Division of Planning. “The County is diligently working to alleviate any concern regarding Hope Road becoming a County road. We, as Freeholders, are always here for the residents of Monmouth County and willing to listen to their ideas and suggested improvements.”

The Board will vote on the resolution at their regular meeting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27 in Freehold.
