Welcome to Monmouth County's second countywide food drive!
The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders has partnered with the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties to make a difference and to collect food for the FoodBank.
You can help by making a food donation at a county branch library or at another county location this month.
Non-perishable, protein-rich foods are perfect for donation. The FoodBank recommends items such as macaroni & cheese, pasta, powdered milk, dry beans, cereal, canned vegetables and fruits, salad dressings, peanut butter, jelly, puddings, fruit juice and canned tuna fish, chicken, corned beef hash or salmon.
You can make your donation at these branches of the Monmouth County Library System: Headquarters in Manalapan, Eastern Branch in Shrewsbury, Atlantic Highlands, Colts Neck, Hazlet, Howell, Marlboro, Ocean Township, Oceanport, Wall and West Long Branch.
The county locations are:
- Belford Ferry Terminal, Belford section of Middletown
- County Connection Office, Neptune
- Hall of Records, Freehold Borough
- County Agricultural Building, Freehold Twp.
- Human Services Building, Freehold Twp.
- John L. Montgomery Care Center, Freehold Twp.
- Geraldine Thompson Care Center, Wall
- Thompson Park, Lincroft
- Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center, Howell
The county is also extending the 'Food for fines' program at the county branch libraries with all 13 branches participating. If you have overdue materials or outstanding fines, bring the items and food to the library counter. The libraries will reduce your overdue fines by $1 for every food item donated. Separate bins will be placed in the libraries for people who do not have fines but want to donate food also. This program will be in effect until April 30, 2013.
The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties reports that the county drive brought in 21,488 pounds - nearly 11 tons - of food in 2012.
The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders asks for renewed donations and assistance to once again make a big impact in defeating hunger in Monmouth County.
