As society changes, so do the needs of our families. The Family & Community Health Sciences department (FCHS) of Monmouth County helps consumers adjust to societal and environmental changes with programs, which address critical issues that impact families. FCHS also offers the Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program (FSNEP), which educates limited-income adults, seniors, youth, and families on nutrition and how to make better use of their food stamps and/or food dollars.
Programs offered by FCHS include:
- Consumer Food Safety Education
- Nutritional Education
- Herbs and Health
- Eating for Health
- Environmental Health
- Human Development
- As well as a variety of other "life skills" topics
These courses are developed to address the needs of the county and provide information that is accurate, reliable, current, and research-based. Through this programming, FCHS strives to strengthen families and promote food safety and nutrition. Our programs are offered throughout the county and are frequently presented in collaboration with local agencies, and organizations as seminars, workshops, and home study courses.
Our FCHS staff can also answer your questions about food safety, food preservation, home and environmental safety, and other consumer concerns. FCHS aims to raise awareness concerning a safe food supply, consumer safety, nutritional well-being and life skills. Fact sheets and additional information, as well as our Visions newsletter are also available.
