Monmouth County Fire Academy graduates 72
FREEHOLD – The Monmouth County Fire Academy recently graduated 72 volunteers from Firefighter I Classes #75 and #76. The ceremony was held May 28.
The Firefighter I graduates attended weekend classes at the Monmouth County Fire Academy in Howell and completed more than 130 hours of course work. They received training in rescue, fire extinguishment, hazardous materials response, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, electrical safety, and care of hoses and other equipment.
“Volunteer firefighters provide a necessary service and assist in the delivery of quality public services at the local level,” said Freeholder William C. Barham, who spoke at the graduation and commended the new graduates for their dedication and willingness to serve. “The individuals graduating today will provide a high level of safe and valued service because they have proven themselves throughout this County training program.”
“This new crop of firefighters, like the 10,000 other firefighters who receive training at the Fire Academy each year, worked hard to achieve their goals,” said William Itinger, chief training officer at the county facility. “They are very dedicated. I have no doubt they will provide a great service to their communities as they carry out their important duties.”
“These graduates joins the ranks other active local firefighters who serve their neighbors, friends and communities,” Barham said. “Firefighters, along with other emergency responders, are available at all times. They are confronted with life and death situations and their ability to react properly and safely can be attributed to the training program they have just completed.”
Each firefighter was awarded a certificate of course completion by Freeholder Barham, county Fire Marshall Timothy Smith and Itinger.
