Freeholder Director Burry releases statement
on Assistant County Counsel James F. Cleary
FREEHOLD – Freeholder Director Lillian G. Burry released the following statement regarding a review by the NJ Department of Treasury’s Division of Pensions and Benefits into the retirement benefits being paid to attorney James J. Cleary through his prior association with the Western Monmouth Utilities Authority. Cleary is currently an assistant county counsel.
“Monmouth County is not paying for health care or providing pension benefits to James Cleary or any of our other County counsels. The current review involving Mr. Cleary’s receipt of pension benefits as a result of his prior work with the WMUA is not a criminal matter, but rather an administrative matter. Therefore, Mr. Cleary will continue to serve in his capacity as assistant County counsel while this matter is resolved.”
