will be celebrated at Monmouth Mall in Eatontown
County staff will have a booth near the food court April 7, 8 and 9

FREEHOLD – Monmouth County will mark National County Government Week (NCGW), April 6-12, by bringing information about county services to Monmouth Mall, Eatontown. The county will staff a booth in the food court area on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

To help advance this year’s theme – “Protecting Our Children” – the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office will be at the mall in the afternoon Wednesday enrolling children in the “Youth Identification Program,” which involves preparing wallet-sized cards with a photo ID of the child. The child’s parents or guardian maintain complete control of the card, but it can be given to local first responders in an emergency to aid in the rapid location and safe return of the child.

At the booth on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., will be Monmouth County Surrogate Rosemarie D. Peters, who will have information on wills, estates, guardianship and adoptions. Other departments participating in County Government Week at the mall are the County Clerk, County Care Centers, Economic Development & Tourism, Public Information, Human Services, Consumer Affairs, Mosquito Commission and the Monmouth County Park System.

NCGW, sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo), is an annual celebration of county governments and their employees. It was first celebrated in 1991 to raise public awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of more than 3,000 counties nationwide.

“Monmouth County is proud of the variety of services it provides to the community,” Freeholder Director Lillian G. Burry said. “National County Government Week is a great opportunity for the public to take a closer look at what we do, how we do it, and meet some of the county staff behind the services that are being provided. I urge everyone to stop by the county booth.”

The booth, which is being provided by Monmouth Mall, will be staffed as follows:

  • Monday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Economic Development & Tourism and Public Information departments and the Monmouth County Care Centers. 1 to 3:30 p.m. – County Clerk’s office. 1 to 8 p.m. – Human Services Department.
  • Tuesday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – County Surrogate’s office and Consumer Affairs department. 1 to 4:30 p.m. – County Surrogate and Monmouth County Park System.          4:30 to 8 p.m. – Park System and Mosquito Commission.
  • Wednesday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Consumer Affairs Department and Public Information Department. 1 to 6 p.m. – Economic Development & Tourism department. 3:30 to 6:00 p.m.

From the hills of Atlantic Highlands to the Manasquan River at the southern tip, and from westernmost reaches of Allentown to the shoreline in Asbury Park, Monmouth County offers its residents a diversity of lifestyles, quality health and education systems, thousands of acres of open space and permanently preserved farmland and the largest lending library system in the state.

Monmouth County is a member of NACo, the only national organization that represents county governments in the United States. Of the 3,066 counties in the United States, Monmouth County is among only 21 to boast a AAA bond rating by all three major rating agencies. The county has maintained that unique financial position for the last 10 years in a row.
