Monmouth County employees donate $49,057 to charity
Three generous county workers win an extra day off

FREEHOLD – This year, Monmouth County employees donated more than $49,000 to support the work of more than 1,300 charitable organizations throughout the United States.

The Public Employees Charitable Campaign, begun last September with bi-weekly payroll deductions administered by the United Way of Monmouth County, raised $49,057, said Luis A. Navarro, who has served as the county’s Charitable Campaign chairman for the last 18 years.

“Once again, Monmouth County employees have demonstrated their generosity by making contributions through voluntary payroll deductions,” Navarro said. This year, I am pleased to announce that Monmouth County employees donated more money for charity than ever before.”

As “Partners in Giving,” government employees throughout New Jersey were asked to    contribute donations through payroll deductions. This year’s statewide donations are still being tallied, but it appears that New Jersey’s public employees have once again demonstrated a commitment to creating a healthier, safer, and a happier world for everyone.

To encourage participation in the Monmouth County campaign, employees donating more than $3 per paycheck were included in a drawing for an extra day off. This year’s winners areMargaret Mushinski and Lillian Charbonneau of the Monmouth County Health Department, and Margaret Elliot at the Monmouth County Division of Aging, Disability and Veterans Interment Affairs.

Freeholder Robert D. Clifton, who drew the winning names on Thursday, said “I am extremely proud of our participation and I want to personally thank each and every public employee who was involved in this most worthy charitable campaign. Public employees in Monmouth County are amazingly generous people who have opened their hearts and their wallets to help others.”

In addition to county employees, public employees from Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, the Monmouth County Vocational School system, and employees of Middletown Township participated in this year’s fund drive.
