FREEHOLD – The Monmouth County Historical Commission is accepting nominations for its 2008 Monmouth County Preservation Awards program that recognizes buildings and other structures within the county that have historic value. The deadline to file an application is April 16.
Anyone, including a property owner, may nominate a structure that has historic value and has undergone preservation work that was substantially completed in 2007. Homes, business buildings, houses of worship, public buildings and other structures that are more than 50 years old are eligible for the award. Complete entry information, including an application is available on the Monmouth County Web site at www.visitmonmouth.com/history.
“The County’s Historical Commission is dedicated to preserving our rich past and creating a living history of our county,” said Freeholder Director Lillian G. Burry. “There are many worthwhile preservation projects that deserve recognition. Residents and business people are taking the time to preserve the past and the commission hopes to publicly thank these good efforts.”
The nomination process is simple and entails the completion of a one-page application that can be downloaded from the County’s Web site at www.visitmonmouth.com/history or by calling 732-431-7413. Completed applications should be mailed to Monmouth County Historic Commission, Hall of Records, Room 201, Freehold, NJ 07728 by April 16, 2008.
