County announces annual senior citizen art show
Visual artists must apply by June 20th
 
FREEHOLD – Monmouth County residents age 60 and over are invited to submit one piece of original, visual art in Monmouth County’s annual 2008 Senior Citizen Art Contest and Exhibition.  
 
County residents may pick up an application at the county’s Division on Aging, Disabilities and Veteran’s Interment Affairs at 21 Main St., Freehold, request a copy be mailed to them by calling 732-431-7450 or download the complete application packet from the county Web site at www.visitmonmouth.com/aging. The deadline to submit a completed application is June 20.  
 
Categories in both the professional and nonprofessional divisions are acrylic, craft, digital imagery, drawing, mixed media, oil, pastel, photography, print, sculpture and watercolor. Category specific information is included in the application packet.
 
“This popular program is a way for the county’s active, creative and vibrant citizens to showcase their talents,” said Freeholder Barbara J. McMorrow, liaison to the Monmouth County Division on Aging, Disabilities and Veterans’ Interment Affairs. The agency coordinates Monmouth County’s contest and exhibition each year.
 
Entries will be on display in the Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan from July 3 through July 31.  
 
In 2007, 15 participants of the contest went on to participate at the state level where six residents came up winners. The 2007 entry ‘Faces in a Crowd,’ a watercolor painting submitted by Joan Wallace of Manasquan, was judged the statewide Best in Show in the professional division.
