County employees give a ton of food to FoodBank
Volunteer effort helps meet local needs

FREEHOLD, NJ – Monmouth County employees recently wrapped-up their food drive for the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and calculated that the 2,590 lbs. of non-perishable items collected in county offices amount to a 1.3 ton donation.

“County employees helped reduce hunger in the county by stepping up and dropping off much needed food items at work during the past two months,” said Freeholder Amy A. Mallet, liaison to the county Human Services Department. “They responded to the FoodBank’s call for assistance during a time of increased demand. This is an example of how our employees are doing their part to help and support their neighbors and our local not-for-profits.

“I encourage all county residents to give what they can to reduce hunger in our communities and support the FoodBank’s efforts to help provide emergency food to the almost 19,000 different children each year,” Mallet added.

The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties distributes 3.8 million pounds of food a year through 260 charities. It is located at 3300 Rte. 66 in Neptune and is a member of America’s Second Harvest, the nation’s food bank network. For further information, or to make a donation, please call (732) 918-2600 or visit the Web site, www.foodbankmoc.org

County employees also contributed more than $50,000 to various organizations through the county’s charitable campaign last year. The Public Employees Charitable Campaign is another way that county employees regularly contribute to the charities of their choice through bi-weekly payroll deductions.

The FoodBank is one of the community organizations that receive payroll donations from county employees.
