John P. Curley to take seat on freeholder board
FREEHOLD – John P. Curley will be sworn into a three year term on the county Board of Chosen Freeholders at 4 p.m. today as part of the county’s annual organization meeting at the Monmouth County Police Academy, 4000 Kozloski Road.
During the 2010 Annual Organization meeting that will immediately follow the swearing-in ceremony, Freeholder Lillian G. Burry is expected to be appointed director of the board and Freeholder Robert D. Clifton is expected to be named deputy director. The election of Burry and Clifton to leadership positions on the Board will signify a change in the Board make-up to a Republican majority.
In addition to Burry and Clifton, Curley will join Freeholder John D’Amico and Freeholder Amy A. Mallet on the five-member freeholder board. Curley, who lives in Middletown, replaces Barbara J. McMorrow, who served on the board since 2007.
“It will be my honor to serve as the director of the Board of Chosen Freeholders,” Burry said. “We have many challenges in the year ahead, but I am confident that together we will meet those challenges head on and do what’s best for Monmouth County. We will work toward improving services and continuing to provide the quality of life residents expect and deserve.”
“I am pleased to once again to be considered for a leadership role on the board and I plan to continue overseeing the county’s finances,” Clifton said. “We are facing a tough budget year yet again and there will be difficult choices to be made. I am sure we will do what is best for our taxpayers.”
“I am honored to serve the people of Monmouth County and I pledge to do my best to ensure that residents continue to enjoy the finest quality of life New Jersey has to offer,” Curley said. “I was sent here to do the people’s business and that is what I intend to do.”
In addition to changes in leadership among the freeholders, the board will be making a number of appointments to fill key roles in the county, including a new fire marshal, Planning Board members and a member of the Board of Recreation Commissioners.
