Fair Haven’s doughboy memorial featured in video
Latest installment features historic resting place

FAIR HAVEN, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders has released another installment in its online history project that features the borough’s war memorial in a two-and-a-half-minute video available for viewing on the county Web site at www.visitmonmouth.com.

Joining the county’s “These Historic Places” video series, is Fair Haven’s World War I statue “The Spirit of the American Doughboy” at the center Veterans Memorial Park. Its dedication was in 1924, six years after the “war to end all wars,” World War I, had come to an end.

“The full copper statue honors the local servicemen who gave their lives for our freedom,” said Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, liaison to the county Historical Commission. “In viewing this video you will see and hear about several interesting ways the borough remembers the local lives lost in patriotic efforts.”

Located in the center of town at the northwest corner of Fair Haven and River roads, the park  also includes other memorials to residents who served the United States as members of the Armed Forces and a 9/11 memorial.

Each of the county’s historic videos previews local history spots and includes bits of historic information. Previous history videos have included churches, historic homes, unique museums and points of interest throughout the county. All videos are available for viewing on the county Web site at www.visitmonmouth.com.

“Residents who visit the county Web site can learn a great deal about county projects,” Burry said. “This history project is just one of the many resources available on the county Web site.”
