West Long Branch intersection work is completed
Traffic signal, widening improve
Locust Avenue/Wall Street crossroad

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The eagerly awaited improvements to the intersection of Wall Street and Locust Avenue are completed, and a new traffic signal was turned on today.
The project was more than replacing a traffic signal; it entailed geometric improvements and pavement widening along Wall Street to accommodate left-turn lanes at the intersection. In addition, new storm drainage facilities have been installed, as well as new curbing, sidewalk, crosswalks, and handicapped ramps at the intersection. The new traffic signal will operate much more efficiently and also include separate pedestrian signals in addition to incorporating state-of-the-art equipment utilizing video vehicle detection; a battery backup system; and energy saving LED signal heads.
“I am pleased this project is completed and this intersection is now safer for motorists and pedestrians alike,” Freeholder Director Barbara J. McMorrow said.
The project was designed by CMX Engineering of Manalapan, with direction and inspection from the Monmouth County Department of Public Works and Engineering. The project was built by Star of the Sea Concrete Corp. of South River at a cost of $640,000.
Monmouth County constantly evaluates and maintains more than 980 bridges and culverts and 380 centerline miles of roadway.
“We are happy to add this project to the growing list of intersections improved by the county,” McMorrow said. “We also appreciate the cooperation of local residents and law enforcement officers in completing the project.”
