Freeholders recognize 1st fire house to go solar
Rumson Fire Co. installs solar panels
RUMSON, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders recognized Rumson Fire Company’s recent accomplishment of being the first fire house in Monmouth County to install roof top solar panels for effective heating and electrical service in its firehouse.
“Rumson Fire Company’s effort to go green deserves notice,” Freeholder Director Barbara J. McMorrow said at the Oct. 22 Rumson Borough Council workshop meeting where she presented the certificate. “The Rumson Fire Company members had the foresight to use today’s technology to reduce their operating costs and move toward sustainability.”
“This local success is a great follow-up to the county’s efforts to focus attention on a variety of ideas and methods of reducing our carbon footprint by preserving our natural resources, reducing energy consumption and utilizing renewable energy sources,” McMorrow said. “Rumson Fire Company has done more than just talk about this – they have made their roof go to work for them.”
McMorrow presented the certificate to Rumson Mayor John E. Ekdahl and Rumson Fire Company members Ronald Immesberger, 2nd lieutenant, and John Kirkpatrick, head trustee.
McMorrow’s recognition of the Rumson firehouse milestone also coincided with National Fire Prevention Month. She took the opportunity to thank the all-volunteer fire company for their time and expertise in helping to protect lives and property in the community.
“As part of the county’s team of selfless firefighters, you perform extraordinary and valiant acts to keep our fellow citizens safe,” McMorrow said. “I commend you and thank you for being on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
The Rumson Fire Company firehouse, built in 1956, is located at 140 East River Road. The Rumson Fire Company was founded in 1906.
