Coastal Monmouth Plan to be discussed
at a public meeting and open house on Nov. 16

LINCROFT, NJ  – A second public information session and open house to present information and elicit comments on the Coastal Monmouth Plan, a regional planning effort currently under way, will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at Brookdale Community College, Warner Student Life Center, Navesink Room 1.

The objective of the plan is to establish a set of planning alternatives that will help 30 coastal municipalities – both individually and from a regional planning perspective – manage development, conserve open space, explore redevelopment opportunities and address the impacts of future growth on infrastructure, the natural environment and overall quality of life.

Initiated by the Monmouth County Planning Board, the Coastal Monmouth Plan was launched in 2006 with help from Maser Consulting, P.A. and stakeholders.

Freeholder Lillian Burry, a Planning Board member, said “Much has changed since the project’s inception. It’s necessary to have a clear vision of what we can do to enhance the quality of life for residents as well as improve the business climate for the Coastal Region. This plan focuses on the need to support our arts, entertainment and cultural centers as hubs of economic activity and looks to protect environmental centers for conservation, recreation and educational purposes.”

The study is available for public viewing on the county Web site at www.visitmonmouth.com. From the county Home page, click on the link to the Planning Board and then click on the Long Term Planning section to access the Coastal Monmouth Plan project.

The open house is intended to provide the general public with a chance to learn more details about the plan’s findings and final recommendations. For those unable to attend, the county will accept written comments through the end of November.

Deputy Director Freeholder John D’Amico Jr., a Planning Board member who attended at the first information session in April 2008, states, “The public is invited come in and offer comments that will help us determine the outcome of the final project. Public comments are a valuable part of the planning process and we are looking forward to receiving feedback from the participants.”

Doors are scheduled to open at 6:45 p.m. with a presentation of the Coastal Monmouth Plan by Maser Consulting P.A. to begin promptly at 7 p.m. Questions and comments will be taken immediately following the presentation and continue until the meeting is adjourned at approximately 8:45 p.m.
