Freeholder joins FoodBank in Hunger Action month
Encourages residents to give a little…to feed a lot

Freeholder Mallet has joined the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and Feeding America in asking residents to step up during Hunger Action Month.

NEPTUNE, NJ –  One in eight Americans struggles with hunger. That’s why Monmouth County Freeholder Amy A. Mallet has joined The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and Feeding America in asking residents to step up during Hunger Action Month this September.

September is national Hunger Action Month which is a nationwide call-to-action effort to mobilize people everywhere to get involved with ending hunger in America.

“Throughout September, there are many opportunities to give a little of yourself - money, time or voice - to feed a lot,” Mallet said. “From donating canned goods and other non-perishable items to donating your pocket change or learning more about hunger, there are many ways that you can make a difference. The FoodBank has created a daily calendar filled with many more ideas that will work toward eliminating hunger in our community.”

Freeholder Mallet participated in The FoodBank’s Hunger Action month kick-off on Sept.1 at The FoodBank. Also at the event were several of the partners in the local and national effort to end hunger, including NJ Secretary of Agriculture Douglas Fisher and representatives from Wendy’s “Action for Hunger”, Liberty Natural Gas Boardwalk Relay, School Holiday Hunger Challenge Kick-Off, “From Seed to Need” at The Grove, Macy’s Department Stores, Rutgers University and The Cheesecake Factory.  United Airlines and Sony Pictures have joined together on a national level to take action.  Log on to www.foodbankmoc.org for more information regarding these events and the calendar of things to do this month to help stop hunger. View the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties calendar of events.

To make a difference you can donate food and time at The FoodBank of Monmouth & Ocean Counties located at 3300 Route 66 in Neptune. Contact The FoodBank by telephone at 732-918-2600 or by email at main@foodbankmoc.org.

Last year, The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, a member of Feeding America, distributed 5.2 million pounds of food to 270 emergency feeding organizations that include soup kitchens, senior centers, food pantries, shelters, and other programs that feed the needy throughout all of Monmouth and Ocean counties.
