County to recognize citizens who are called to service
Sept. 10 deadline for monthly nominations

Freeholder Director Barbara J. McMorrow presents a call to service proclamation.FREEHOLD – Here’s your chance to publicly recognize your friend, neighbor, co-worker or a student or business person for making Monmouth County the place you want to be.

The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders is looking to recognize residents who have answered a call to service by presenting Citizen Service Awards.

“Monmouth County’s Citizen Service Awards focus on thanking people for getting involved in their communities,” Freeholder Director Barbara J. McMorrow said. “Our goal is to recognize people who are already taking action to make the county a better place. We hope this will also encourage other residents to get involved and answer their own call to service.”

If you know of someone who has been working to improve your community or the lives of its residents, you can submit a letter of nomination to Freeholder Director Barbara J. McMorrow for consideration by the 10th of each month. For you to recognize someone in September, the deadline for your nomination is Sept. 10.

The letter of nomination, two-page maximum, should include a description of what the nominee did in his or her call to service along with a description of the need for the action, two references and a single sentence explanation of why the nominee is deserving of the award. Complete nomination criteria is available on the county Web site at www.visitmonmouth.com

“Earlier this year the Board recognized 13-year-old Jordan Davis of Millstone for selflessly thinking of others in need and acting to make a difference,” McMorrow said. “Jordan’s actions touched me deeply and caused me to reflect on all the other good people in Monmouth County who are called to serve as well. He was our first recipient of the Citizen Service Award.”

McMorrow met Jordan during the 2008 holiday season when she assisted students at the Millstone Township Middle School with a food drive. Knowing supply was low and the demand was up, Jordan Davis donated all of his birthday money to his school’s holiday food drive.

Nominations should be sent to the Board of Chosen Freeholders by U.S. mail to: Citizens Service Awards, c/o Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders, PO Box 1255, Freehold, NJ 07728. Or, you can submit your completed letter of nomination, two pages maximum, by email to freeholdermcmorrow@gmail.com
