County parks – are TV topics

FREEHOLD – “Monmouth In Focus,” the county’s monthly televised program, is on the air this August with a look at the county’s efforts to keep its parks in shape to meet and balance the needs of residents and the environment.

“Residents will gain a sense of just how comprehensive a park system we have in our backyard if they watch this show,” Freeholder Director Barbara J. McMorrow said. “The park rangers, interpreters and ecologists do an excellent job in keeping 38 parks and other open spaces ready for our use and enjoyment and this is a great way for us to see some behind the scenes places and activities.

The August show has interviews with Senior Park Manager Rick Royle, Park Ecologist Anna Luiten and Senior Park Naturalist Sam Skinner. The trio discuss topics related to park maintenance and safety, the characteristics of a healthy forest and ways that residents can learn more about the natural world in Monmouth County.

“The county Park System has more than 14,500 acres that help maintain an ecological balance in our county while supporting our quality of life,” said Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, liaison to the Park System. “Some parks have playgrounds and trails, while other areas offer places to learn about nature or let your dog run off leash.  Greenways and conservation areas join golf courses and recreation areas by helping to recharge our watersheds and buffer stream corridors. This month’s Monmouth In Focus lets us see a little bit of how we are securing a green future for our county.”

The show is a half-hour program with short segments that feature a different aspect of county government. All previously aired shows can be viewed on the county’s Web site at www.visitmonmouth.com.

“Monmouth In Focus” is a televised companion to the county newsletter of the same name. The show is produced at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, by county staff with the assistance of students enrolled in Brookdale’s television production classes.

Monmouth In Focus airs on both the Comcast and Cablevision local access channels, Brookdale Television and municipal public access channels in Howell, Freehold Twp., Middletown, Millstone and Ocean Twp.  Check with your local access provider for the dates and times.
