County turns on traffic light in Manasquan
MANASQUAN – With the flip of a switch, the traffic light at the intersection of South Street (County Route 20) and Lakewood Rd\ Marcellus Ave. was operational.
County and local officials were on hand to dedicate the newly completed project, which involved road widening at the intersection to improve turning movements, installation of a storm drainage system and the installation of a semi-actuated traffic signal.
“This project continues the county’s efforts to improve its roads and intersections while being environmentally responsible and cost conscious,” Freeholder Director Barbara J. McMorrow said at the event. “The LED traffic lights are eco-friendly and cost less to operate. This set-up also has an eight hour battery back-up that will keep the intersection operational in the event of a power outage. This is a great improvement for the residents of Manasquan.”
“The project greatly improves the safety of the traveling public by improving and signalizing a heavily traveled intersection,” County Engineer Joseph Ettore said. “As the levels of traffic continue to increase, the county’s work will provide safer passage for pedestrians, bicyclists and vehicles. This intersection improvement project addressed multiple needs.”
The project was designed by Birdsall Engineering, Inc. of Eatontown with direction and inspection from the Monmouth County Department of Public Works and Engineering. This project was constructed by Lucas Construction Group, Inc. of Morganville at an estimated final contract cost of $250,000.
