Monmouth County employees donate $53,184 to charity
Three generous county workers win an extra day off
FREEHOLD – This year, Monmouth County employees donated more than $50,000 to support the work of more than 1,300 charitable organizations throughout the United States.
The Public Employees Charitable Campaign, begun last September with bi-weekly payroll deductions administered by the United Way of Monmouth County, raised $53,184, said Luis A. Navarro, who has served as the county’s Charitable Campaign chairman for the last 19 years.
“Monmouth County employees were more generous this past year than ever before,” Navarro said. “Once again, they have demonstrated their generosity by making bi-weekly contributions through voluntary payroll deductions. In this economy, with many of our nonprofit agencies experiencing a drop in government funding and private donations, this money is needed now more than ever.”
As “Partners in Giving,” government employees throughout New Jersey were asked to contribute donations through payroll deductions. This year’s statewide donations are still being tallied, but it appears that New Jersey’s public employees have once again demonstrated a commitment to creating a healthier, safer, and a happier world for everyone.
To encourage participation in the Monmouth County campaign, employees donating more than $3 per paycheck were included in a drawing for an extra day off. This year’s winners are Christine Giunta, who works in the Clerk of the Board’s office, Dawn Campopiano, who works in the Division of Social Services, and Michelle Bordeaux, who works for the Monmouth County Library System.
Freeholder Director Barbara J. McMorrow, who drew the winning names, said “I am extremely proud of our participation and I want to personally thank each and every public employee who was involved in this most worthy charitable campaign. Public employees in Monmouth County are amazingly generous people who have opened their hearts and their wallets to help others.”
In addition to county employees, public employees from Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, the Monmouth County Vocational School system, and employees of Middletown Township participated in this year’s fund drive.
