Freeholder McMorrow will not seek re-election
Health issues prompt her to make a ‘difficult and painful’ decision
FREEHOLD – Citing health issues, Freeholder Director Barbara J. McMorrow announced today that she will not be seeking re-election to the Board of Chosen Freeholders this year.
“Many of you who know me well, have known that during these past few months I have been dealing with a number of health-related issues,” McMorrow said. “Unfortunately, these issues have not been resolved and I have had to make a very difficult and painful decision.”
McMorrow is in the third year of her three-year term, and is the only freeholder whose seat is to be contested in this fall’s election.
During her tenure on the Board, McMorrow has advocated for bipartisan solutions on an array of county issues, including pay-to-play rules that place stricter limits the amounts of money that can be donated to candidates for freeholder. She also created and implemented the Budget Review Committee, which made 37 recommendations designed to improve county services, including the Strategic Plan.
“We will be the first county in New Jersey to have a Strategic Plan that will enhance county services and make county government more accountable to residents,” McMorrow said. “I am looking forward to voting to adopt the Strategic Plan this summer.”
This year, McMorrow unveiled the county’s “Call to Service” initiative that recognizes citizens who go above and beyond in order to help their fellow man. As part of the program, information about county boards and commissions are being posted online to encourage participation.
“There is still a lot of work to be done this year and I am looking forward to completing my term,” she said.
