Wanted: structures with historic stature
County Historic Commission to recognize important buildings
FREEHOLD – The Monmouth County Historical Commission is accepting nominations for its annual preservation awards program that recognizes the efforts and accomplishments of residents in preserving local buildings and other structures that have historic value. The deadline is April 8.
Anyone, including a property owner, may nominate a structure that has historic value and has undergone preservation work that was substantially completed in 2008. Homes, business buildings, houses of worship, public buildings and other structures that are more than 50 years old are eligible for the award. Complete entry information, including an application is available on the Monmouth County Web site at
www.visitmonmouth.com/history.
“There are many worthwhile preservation projects that deserve recognition,” Freeholder Lillian G. Burry said. “Residents and business people are taking the time to preserve the past and the Historical Commission wants to publicly acknowledge these good efforts.”
The nomination process is simple and entails the completion of a one-page application that can be downloaded from the County’s Web site at
www.visitmonmouth.com/history or by calling 732-431-7413. Completed applications should be mailed to Monmouth County Historic Commission, Hall of Records Annex, 2nd floor, Freehold, NJ 07728 by April 8, 2009.
