Monmouth County OEM cited by state
for its emergency preparedness efforts
 
FREEHOLD – Monmouth County’s Office of Emergency Management has been cited for its efforts in coordinating information sharing among the 53 emergency management coordinators in the county and has received a “County of the Year” designation from state OEM officials.
 
Monmouth OEM receives award for its efforts“It is always special to be recognized by your peers, and this award is a tribute to how well emergency management coordinators are prepared to work together to handle a crisis,” Freeholder Director Barbara J. McMorrow said. “Once again, Monmouth County is leading the way, and I think we all appreciate that and are able to rest a little easier when big storms or other disasters occur.”
 
Gary McTighe, acting coordinator of the county’s OEM office, said the Office of Emergency Management, in connection with the New Jersey Emergency Management Association, Homeland Security, State Police and other first responders, hold drills throughout the year with representatives from each municipality to ensure that everyone is prepared in the event of a major disaster.
 
“The Monmouth County Office of Emergency Management is committed to strengthening its relationships with the municipal OEM coordinators, and is honored to be recognized by our peers from across the state,” McTighe said. “I share this award with the OEM coordinators in Monmouth County.”
 
The New Jersey Emergency Management Association is comprised of Emergency Management Coordinators and personnel from the other counties and municipalities within the state of New Jersey. The association is also supported by various private sector businesses that provide services related to disaster management and response.
 
Today’s award was presented by Chief Howard O’Neil, who is Neptune Township’s Emergency Management Coordinator and member-at-large for the state emergency management association.
