3rd Annual Pound the Pavement for Pancreatic Cancer Walk/Run Taking Place on October 8

NEPTUNE, NJ – The third annual Pound the Pavement for Purple 5K Run/ 2 Mile Walk, presented by the Neptune Township Committee and the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders, will take place on Saturday, October 8 at 10 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park located at 703 Corlies Avenue in Neptune.

Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the U.S, according to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. The American Cancer Society estimates that 53,070 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the United States and approximately 41,780 people will die of the disease in 2016.

Proceeds from the walk/run will support the Lustgarten Foundation, dedicated to advancing research related to the diagnosis, treatment, cure and prevention of pancreatic cancer. To date, Lustgarten has directed more than $110 million to pancreatic cancer research. The organization also provides in-depth information to patients and their families.

“The Board of Freeholders is proud to support this important fundraising event to benefit pancreatic cancer research,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone. “We encourage everyone to participate and come out to walk or run to help raise awareness for this dreaded disease.”

Pre-registration is available online until October 4 and by mail until October 7. Registration will also be available the day of the run/walk beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park.
