Wall Twp. receives $10k recycling grant check
City rewarded for increasing its recycling rate

NEPTUNE CITY, NJ– The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders awarded Wall Township with a $10,000 check as part of Monmouth County’s Recycling Stimulus Initiative (RSI) grant program, which was created to encourage municipalities to increase their recycling rates.

Freeholders present $10k recycling grant to Wall Twp.Wall Township received its grant for raising the township’s recycling rate by 190 percent for the evaluation period, from April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016.

“The nearly 200 percent increase shows the town’s commitment to making people aware of the benefits of recycling for the environment and recovering products that can be reused,” said Freeholder Deputy Director Serena DiMaso, liaison to the Monmouth County Reclamation Center. “This increase is very impressive, and the town should be acknowledged for their outreach efforts which contributed to the impressive growth rates. The focus on educating, advertising and getting the word out were quite successful.”

Wall Township Mayor Ann Marie Conte and Deputy Mayor Dominick DiRocco accepted the accolades and the check at the freeholders’ public meeting on July 28 in Neptune City.

In addition to increasing their recycling rate, the town met the other requirements of the incentive program, including attending required meetings and filing the proper reports with the County and State.

“The diverse ways towns allocate their grants further demonstrates their importance of recycling,” said DiMaso. “The educational component of recycling and removing waste is essential to keep our water supply clean and to extend the life of landfills. Recycling is a lifetime commitment and everyone must do their part to preserve and protect the resources we are fortunate to have.”

Wall Township is using the incentive award for improvements to their Northern Recycling Center.

In order to qualify for a grant under the RSI grant program, the towns needed to meet with the County’s Reclamation Center staff to determine what recycling efforts were being made in the town and what goals they planned to achieve.

The RSI grant program is overseen by the Recycling Division of the Monmouth County Reclamation Center. For more information about recycling programs, call 732-683-8686.
