Ocean Avenue repaving continues in Belmar
Project on target for completion before Memorial Day weekend

BELMAR, NJ – The next town to benefit from the resurfacing of Ocean Avenue is Belmar, with work  beginning last Thursday, April 21. The milling and repaving in Avon and Bradley Beach is complete and restriping of the road finished in both towns last Friday.

The milling and paving of Ocean Avenue started on Monday, April 18, and will continue to take place between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, with no work performed on weekends.

Milling of the 1.4 mile stretch in  Belmar started on Monday, and will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday. Paving in Belmar will take place on Thursday, with milling and repaving of the 2.2 mile stretch in Spring Lake starting on Thursday and Friday, weather permitting. Once work is completed in Spring Lake, the last area of  the project will move to Sea Girt.

“Thanks to the favorable weather, we are ahead of schedule and plan to complete this important project before Memorial Day weekend,” said Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to Public Work and Engineering. “Belmar’s repaving was originally scheduled for next week so we are very pleased with the progress of the work thus far. The County will continue to do everything within its power to minimize disruptions and any inconvenience to homeowners and travelers.”

The $2.28 million resurfacing project includes milling, repaving and restriping of Ocean Avenue and constructing sidewalk curb ramps.

In addition to closing sections of Ocean Avenue, local roads within a block of Ocean Avenue will be closed temporarily for brief periods. Municipal police will be present and signage posted to detour local traffic, ensure safety and avoid congestion. Local residents will continue to have access to their homes and mail deliveries will not be interrupted.

“Full cooperation from all five shore communities helps the County staff and our contractor move this project along smoothly,” said Deputy Freeholder Director Serena DiMaso. “The County is confident the project will be completed in time for the traditional summer season kickoff.”

The project’s contractor is the Stavola Contracting Company based in Tinton Falls. Monmouth County Department of Public Works and Engineering is overseeing the logistics of the project.
