Spring will bloom with activities in April
From nature walks to stage shows, Monmouth County is springing

FREEHOLD, NJ – The winter has officially ended and the colors of spring are beginning to show as Monmouth County blossoms with vibrant seasonal flora. But that’s not the only thing blossoming in the County; our Calendar of Events is flourishing, too!

“As we enter our spring tourism season, I hope visitors and residents will take advantage of all the events Monmouth County has to offer,” said Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone. “The winter is over and it is time for everyone to get outside and to enjoy the abundant spring events.”

With the weather warming up, many events will begin to take place in the great outdoors. At Historic Allaire Village, the Early Spring Flea Market at Historic Allaire Village takes place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 9 and the Spring Festival is on April 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Get physical this month with the Holly Forrest Walk on April 15 and an Arbor Day Tree Walk on April 29 at Sandy Hook or the Lobster Run 5k and Walk to Care for the Coast on April 23 at Langosta Lounge in Asbury Park.

The parks will be bustling with activity in April with the Great Spring Perennial Plant Swap at Deep Cut Gardens and the Spring Craft Show at Tatum Park on April 23, the annual Sheep Shearing and Wool Days demonstration at Historic Longstreet Farm on April 23 and 24 and Monmouth County Park System Earth Day Celebrations on April 24, where you will find outdoor activities at several park locations.

April 9 is the 5th annual Made In Monmouth showcase from 10 to 4 at Monmouth University in West Long Branch. Admission and parking are free.

“For your shopping pleasure, Monmouth County Economic Development has assembled more than 230 vendors that make consumer products in Monmouth County,” said Arnone. “Made In Monmouth is a one-stop shopping venue with locally-made goods. Whether you are shopping for home décor, pet supplies, jewelry, food or seasonal items, you’ll find something special and unique.”

“Whether you are looking for a laugh, a show to bring the kids to or a night to rock out, there is something for you at one of Monmouth County’s theaters this month,” said Freeholder Deputy Director Serena DiMaso. “Make sure to check out the Tourism’s calendar to see all that the theaters have to offer this month and all year long.”

Musical and theater offerings are widespread throughout the County this month. The musical “The King and I” will be at Algonquin Theatre select dates from April 1 to 10. At Two River Times Theatre, see Shakespeare’s “Pericles” from April 16 to May 8.

Count Basie Theatre offers a full schedule this month with acts including comedian Sinbad on April 1, Straight No Chaser performs on April 5, Popovich Comedy Pet Theater on April 10, Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Famer Dion on April 14, Clifford The Big Red Dog the musical on April 21, Kathy Griffin on April 22 and The Little Mermaid with shows April 29 to May 1.

History buffs may choose to participate in “Weekend in Old Monmouth,” a self-guided historic tour which includes more than 40 historic sites throughout the County. The tour takes place April 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and May 1 from noon to 5 p.m.
