March madness in Monmouth

Tourism calendar full of activities all month long

FREEHOLD, NJ – The list of activities in Monmouth County this March includes parades, plays and performances, so there’s sure to be a bit of March madness for you to enjoy.

“Start the month with shamrocks and end with egg hunts,” said Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone. “March is the month to celebrate the end of winter by getting outside and with two holidays happening this month, there are plenty of great events to choose from.”

There’s nothing like a parade to usher in the month, and thanks to the St. Patrick’s Day celebration in Belmar that is exactly what you can be part of on Sunday, March 6. Asbury Park and Rumson will host St. Patrick’s Day Parades on March 13 and Highlands keeps the spirit alive with their annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 19.

If you are looking for more ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, enjoy a mix of ancient Irish music at DANU’s St. Patrick’s Celebration at Count Basie Theatre on March 6, St. Patrick’s Day in the 1830s will be celebrated at Historic Allaire Village on March 13 and in Celtic Nights, Spirit of Freedom tells the story of Irish independence through music, song, dance and storytelling at Count Basie Theatre on March 16.

On March 13 from noon to 4:30 p.m., head over to Belmar for their restaurant tour and sample the fine cuisine of local restaurants.

“March 20 marks the first day of spring,” said Freeholder Deputy Director DiMaso. “Join the Monmouth County Park System for a nature walk at 10 a.m. at the Manasquan Reservoir to look for signs of the new season.”
