Exhibitors sought for Archives and History Day

Historical organizations invited to participate in Oct. 3 event

MANALAPAN, NJ – Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon invites all history buffs and historical organizations to participate in the 19th Annual Archives and History Day on Saturday, Oct. 3.

“Archivists, historians, curators, genealogists and others in the field of history and preservation are invited to participate in this great event,” Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon said. “The event provides the opportunity to learn about the history of Monmouth County and hear rich stories from people who have studied it.”

Archives and History Day will take place on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 9:10 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan.

“Archives and History Day is a wonderful opportunity for young and old to learn about the rich traditions, beliefs and values that make up our diverse county and allows us each to explore our cultural identity as citizens of Monmouth County,” said Hanlon.

The Archives and History Day theme is the 1910-1920 era including, but not limited, to WWI, but exhibits may include any topic related to New Jersey history and your organization. Attendees are encouraged to dress in period costume from any era and asked to donate a history-related prize for the annual History Game.

Since 1996, Archives and History Day has been celebrated annually in recognition of Archives Week. Its purpose is to bring together archivists, historians and others people and organizations who preserve New Jersey history and make it available to the public, particularly as it relates to Monmouth County.

“Archives and History Day allows institutions to promote the value of archives to society, publicize collections and programs, support professional archival practices and provide an opportunity for networking among history-related organizations in the state,” said Gary D. Saretzky, archivist for the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office. “It is also a great way for the public to learn about their history directly from a variety of experts.”

Exhibit tables are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information on participating in Archives and History Day, contact Shelagh Reilly at shelagh.reilly@co.monmouth.nj.us
