“This is a very busy intersection for residents and visitors,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Department of Public Works and Engineering. “The goal of this project is to improve the traffic and safety in and around this intersection that previously had no traffic signal.”

The intersection is located at the border of Neptune City and Bradley Beach.

“This improvement mitigates a major transportation issue for our communities,” said Mayor Gary Engelstad of Bradley Beach. “Travel on Memorial Drive will be improved and be safer because of this great partnership with the County.”

In addition to the new traffic signal, the intersection improvement project included widening of the approach lanes; construction of full depth pavement, concrete curbs, new ADA compliant ramps and drainage improvements. In the area near the intersection, both roads were milled, paved and striped. Signage was also added.

The new traffic signal has system link-in with NJ Transit to manage traffic flow in coordination with commuter train schedules.

“A big thank you to Monmouth County for working to address our local needs,” said Mayor Robert Brown of Neptune City. “Emergency personnel in both communities will appreciate this traffic light and significant intersection upgrades.”

The contractor for this project is Green Construction Inc., based in South River, NJ. The cost of construction is $575,662.27.

“We appreciate the cooperation and assistance from Bradley Beach and Neptune City in revamping this intersection,” said Freeholder John P. Curley. “The traffic improvements will improve access to our Shore towns to the benefit of both residents and visitors.”

The new traffic signal will significantly improve traffic flow in the area.
