Freeholders mark ‘Fire Prevention Week’
Residents are urged to develop a home fire escape plan

FREEHOLD – The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders presented a proclamation to Freehold Borough firefighter and 1st Deputy County Fire Marshal Hank A. Stryker, III, marking the week of Oct. 5 to 11 as Fire Prevention Week.

“The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) estimates that approximately 80 percent of all deaths from fire in the United States occur in the home,” Freeholder Director Lillian G. Burry said. “So, it is crucial that our residents understand the importance of developing a home escape plan and conducting family fire drills.”

Information about creating a home fire plan and a copy of a fire prevention checklist are available from the NFPA Web site at www.nfpa.org.

During Fire Prevention Week, the freeholders also asked residents to recognize all of the county’s firefighting personnel who are dedicated to the protection of life and property.

“Thousands of selfless county firefighters, most of them volunteers, perform extraordinary and valiant acts to keep their fellow citizens safe,” Burry said. “We pause this week to thank them for being on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
