Digital Bookmobile visits Library
Library patrons test out technology

SHREWSBURY -- The Digital Bookmobile National Tour swung into the Eastern Branch Library on October 7! The 74-foot Digital Bookmobile, powered by a tractor trailer, opened its doors in the Library’s parking lot to library patrons eager to learn how to download library services to their personal electronic devices.

A gadget gallery—featuring Kindle® HD, iPad® Mini, Android™ Galaxy Tablet, NOOK™ HD+, Sony® Reader™, Kindle® Paperwhite, Windows® Phone 8, and more— helped readers discover the portable devices that are compatible with the Library’s Library on the Go! download service. Bookmobile and Monmouth County Library staff were on hand to help guide patrons.

Library patrons using the Digital Bookmobile were greeted by Freeholder Director and Library Liaison Lillian G. Burry, Acting Monmouth County Library Director Judith Tolchin and members of the Monmouth County Library Commission.

Freeholder Director Burry noted one reason the digital Bookmobile National Tour choose the Eastern Branch Library for a visit was to enable residents in areas affected by Superstorm Sandy to access library services electronically. Two of the Monmouth County Library member libraries in Sea Bright and Monmouth Beach were devastated by the storm and remain closed.

One service highlighted by the Digital Bookmobile was the Monmouth County Library’s new mobile app, which allows patrons to place holds on books, download eBooks, search the catalog, access research databases and check on upcoming library programs – all from their electronic device.
