Local 4H members qualify for state horse show

Championship show to take place Aug. 22 to 24

FREEHOLD, NJ – Five 4-H horse club members will represent Monmouth County at the New Jersey State 4-H Championship Horse Show that takes place from Aug. 22 to 24 at the Horse Park of New Jersey in Allentown.

The State 4-H Championship Horse Show is an annual three-day event that offers 4-H’ers an opportunity to compete at an advanced level and meet other 4-H horse project members from around New Jersey.  More than 200 New Jersey 4-H members from throughout New Jersey will gather to compete in the English, Western, Dressage, Driving, Very Small Equine, Challenged Rider and Game divisions.

“The competing 4-H’ers are the best of the best from each county; they have earned the right to participate through county-level qualifying shows,” said Roberta Hunter, County 4-H Agent.

To compete in the State horse show, 4-H members must qualify with their horse by riding in a series of Tri-County qualifying shows at the county level. The top two scoring riders in each class are then eligible to take part in the state event. State 4-H Horse Show participants are Natalie Cribbin and Katie Kalfayan of The Above and Beyond 4-H Club, Katie Rose Moran and Maya Konefal of The Curry Combs 4-H Club and Erica Todd of The Knight Riders 4-H Club.

County coordinators for this event include Linda Cribbin for Dressage; Debbie Todd for the Driving Division and the Very Small Equine Division; Peg Lanigan for the English Division; and Denise Moran for the Western and Games Divisions.

The State 4-H Championship Horse Show is sponsored in part by the New Jersey Equine Advisory Board as well as by businesses and individuals from throughout the state.
