Slain trooper’s mom gives
“Move Over” presentation

Message to drivers is ‘Slow down. Move over.’

FREEHOLD, NJ – Donna Setaro gave a moving presentation about her campaign to spread awareness about the “Move Over” law at the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholder workshop meeting on June 26.

Donna Setaro is the mother of New Jersey State Trooper Marc Castellano, who was hit and killed by another driver while he was out of his patrol car on Interstate 195 in Howell on June 6, 2010.

Donna has partnered with the New Jersey State Police to give presentations to high school drivers’ education classes about the “Move Over” law.

“I have given 302 presentations to more than 40,000 people,” said Setaro. “My goal is to reach 100,000 people.”

Donna noted that of the 40,000 people she has presented to, only 15 percent of the students were aware that there is a “Move Over” law.

The “Move Over” law was enacted in January of 2009. In the ten years from 1999 to 2009, 220 officers were killed in the United States while outside of their patrol car. In 2010, more than 600 road workers were hit in New Jersey alone.

“Donna is on a mission to create awareness,” said Freeholder Director Lillian G. Burry. “Whatever we, the Board, can do to help, we will do.”
