County’s annual charitable campaign is growing
With two municipalities signed up, more are encouraged to join
FREEHOLD – MonmouthCounty’s annual Public Employees Charitable Campaign is growing this year with the addition of a second municipality. Contributions from public employees in Neptune Township will be added to the county’s overall monetary total.
“Every year Monmouth County employees demonstrate their generosity by donating a small portion of the paychecks to charity,” Freeholder Barbara J. McMorrow said. “This year we are very excited to expand the program to include employees of the Township of Neptune. It is our hope that word will get out and other municipalities and school districts will join our campaign.”
Neptune Mayor Randy Bishop said, “I am proud of Neptune for joining with our county in finding ways to help charities throughout our area help those who have needs of every kind. I am pleased we are taking advantage of this opportunity to join with our partners in the county and I hope it will lead to many more years of working together and many more successes for all of our residents.”
In addition to Neptune, other partners in the county program include employees in the Township of Middletown, Brookdale Community College and the Monmouth County Vocational School District. Other towns or schools that wish to join the county’s campaign are urged to contact Luis Navarro, the county’s charitable campaign chairman, at 732-431-6333.
Last year, Monmouth County and its partners donated nearly $46,000 to support the work of more than 1,300 charitable organizations throughout the United States. The Public Employees Charitable Campaign is administered by the United Way of Monmouth County.
As “Partners in Giving,” government employees throughout New Jersey raised more than $2 million in each of the last three years.
To encourage participation in the MonmouthCounty campaign, any county employee who donates more than $3 per paycheck will be included in a random drawing for an extra day off from work. Participating towns and schools may offer their own incentives if they wish.
“I am extremely proud of our participation and I encourage every public employee to sign up for the program, especially in these economic times when even more pressure is being placed on charitable organizations for assistance,” McMorrow said. “Public employees in Monmouth County are amazingly generous and I am sure they continue to support this year’s fund drive.”
