Freeholders adopt attendance policy
Members of boards, commissions must limit unexcused absences

FREEHOLD – The Board of Chosen Freeholders has adopted strict attendance rules for the many volunteer boards and agencies in the county.

Under a resolution adopted by the Board last week, any appointed member of a county board, agency, commission or committee may be removed from their post if they incur unexcused absences from three consecutive meetings or a cumulative total of 50 percent of the meetings in any given year.

“We have been reviewing the attendance records and policies of these boards and found that 11 of 23 do not have attendance policies in place,” Freeholder John D’Amico Jr. said. “We feel it is appropriate to have a uniform policy that is applicable to all of these boards, agencies, commissions and committees and provide for removal of members who accumulate excessive absences.”

Freeholder Director Lillian G. Burry, concurred, saying, “All boards, agencies, commissions and committees are now required to notify the Clerk of the Board when the attendance of any member warrants removal by the Board of Chosen Freeholders. While we are very grateful for the service of all our volunteers, it is important that these meetings be attended on a regular basis."
