Social Security & Medicare Explained

Upcoming workshop will provide overview

NEPTUNE, NJ – The Monmouth County Office on Aging will sponsor a workshop entitled “Introduction to Social Security and Medicare” on Wednesday, April 17 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Monmouth County Connection, 3544 State Highway 66. Speakers will include representatives from New Jersey State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) and the Social Security Administration (SSA).
 
This presentation will provide an overview of Social Security and how it applies to seniors and will discuss SSA topics such as enrollment and eligibility, raising the SSA benefit age, and the relationship between SSA and Medicare.  In the Medicare portion of the meeting, participants will receive a basic overview of how the Medicare system works and a description of the four parts of Medicare.
 
The workshop is free and open to all Monmouth County residents, but registration is required. To register, please call 732-303-2828. 
 
The Monmouth County Connection is located in the strip mall adjacent to the Home Depot and across the street from Walmart in Neptune.  This new office of Monmouth County government offers a variety of services including passports, passport photos, free notary public, veterans’ IDs, election/voter information, senior and veterans’ services, public access computers and more.
 
The office is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The County Connection is under the direction of County Clerk M. Claire French and is supported by the Board of Chosen Freeholders.
