Senior citizen art show contest winners announced

MANALAPAN – Winners were recognized in the 2008 Monmouth County Senior Citizen Juried Art Contest and Exhibition at an artists’ Reception and Awards Ceremony on Monday, July 14, 2008 at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters.

Freeholder Barbara J. McMorrow, Human Services Director Lynn Miller and Office on Aging Executive Director John Wanat awarded certificates of appreciation to all of the participating artists.  Winners in each of the 10 categories received first-, second-, third-place and honorable mention ribbons. The winners and categories are listed below.

“We are so thrilled by the beauty and passion that our senior citizens show through their artwork,” said Freeholder McMorrow.  “I am delighted to view these creations and share in the public recognition of this great pool of talent. The quality of the work is outstanding and amazing!”

Winning Best in Show were to Marlboro Township residents. Patty Ryan’s pastel, entitled “A Peaceful Day,” won in the nonprofessional category, and a drawing by Dorothy Lawrence, entitled “Summer Shade,” won in the professional category.   

Judges were Sherri Epstein, Bob Mataranglo and Bob O’Conner of the Monmouth County Arts Council. The artwork is on display until July 31 at the Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Dr.  Photographs of the winning artwork also are posted on the county’s Web site at www.visitmonmouth.com/aging.

 First-place winners from each of the 10 categories will compete in the New Jersey Association of Area Agencies on Aging State Senior Citizens Annual Juried Art Contest and Exhibition, to be held in September at the Hunterdon County Complex in Flemington.
