County Fair Week celebrated by Freeholders

FREEHOLD – The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders has proclaimed the week of July 23 thorough July 27, 2008 as “Monmouth County Fair Week” and called upon all residents and visitors to attend the county’s official annual agricultural fair at the East Freehold Park Showgrounds.

“Members of our community – whether they live in the rural, suburban or urban areas – all gain an appreciation for the county’s great agricultural heritage by visiting the fair and taking in all the sights, sounds and smells,” said Freeholder Director Lillian G. Burry, liaison to the county park system and county agricultural extension service. “The Park System and the 4-H Association work side-by-side to present a quality, family-friendly agricultural showcase in a clean and wholesome atmosphere.”

“This year there will be some great new attractions,” said Carol Stasik, 2008 Monmouth County Fair chairwoman. “The Biker Billy Cooking Show will be part of Motorsports Night on Wednesday, a traveling circus show on Thursday, Wild West Night on Friday and a two-day BBQ Cook-off on Friday and Saturday. Stage entertainment will include the 1910 Fruitgum Company and Gary US Bonds.”

The Board of Chosen Freeholders champions the diversity and richness of the county’s agricultural community by actively supporting open space preservation for farmland and public recreation and efforts to save and protect the county’s equine community.
