County Clerk to open full-service satellite office
Evening, Saturday hours will better serve the public
FREEHOLD, NJ – Monmouth County is moving forward with plans to open a satellite office in a storefront on Route 66 in Neptune later this year that aims to provide a wide range of county services to better serve residents in the eastern section of the county.
The effort is being led by Monmouth County Clerk M. Claire French, who formally presented the idea to the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders at their workshop meeting yesterday.
“Residents wanting to use many county services have to take a day off from work to do business at county offices because of the usual business hours in Freehold,” French said. “This storefront location in Neptune will be of great assistance to anyone needing evening or Saturday hours to access services.”
The satellite office will be open weekdays until 7 p.m.; generally most county offices close at 4:30 p.m. Saturday hours are also being planned.
The new facility will make county services such as the passport office, county IDs, elections, senior and veterans services, public information, tourism and many others available at this new location.
“We intend to bring county government closer to the people,” Freeholder Director John P. Curley said. “Several other New Jersey counties have satellite offices and our County Clerk will be using the best practices from those offices to create Monmouth County’s new satellite office.”
“I’ve been there and the space is wonderful,” said Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, liaison to the Clerk’s Office. “This is the right thing to do.”
French is planning to offer a calendar of activities for public services similar to what the other counties have done with great success. Programs for senior citizens will be a large part of the activity schedule.
The Monmouth County satellite site also will offer passport pictures and free veteran’s IDs. Public transportation is available to the Neptune location.
The location of the new office is next to Home Depot and across the highway from WalMart on Highway Route 66 in Neptune.
